Mistakes to Avoid When Using Social Media to Market

In Mari Smith’s blog, she has an article “7 mistakes companies are making on social right now” and I read through it and have a better idea of what to do and not to do when marketing with social media.

Number one was retention > acquisition.

It is important to retain the customers you already have rather than just focusing on the potential customers. You must make sure that the customers you already have are happy and loyal before you focus on bringing in people that are just going to find a better product after a couple of uses.

That is why I try to make a relationship with every client I have and keep them happy because if I have people come back, it is eventually going to build up my loyal clientele and they will refer me to their friends and family.

Facebook Live

If you get on my Facebook Page for Kam B Photography, you can see my live video I did for my class.

Facebook live is one of the most helpful tools in social media marketing today. It is very good for marketing events or giveaways or products. I don’t really feel like it has a lot of an effect on the photography industry. Not as much as Instagram would but it is still getting better and photographers will find it more and more useful as they learn what to do and what not to do when it comes to marketing through live videos.

I thought this assignment was fun because it got me out of my comfort zone and I can’t wait to learn more about Facebook live and how it works!

This blog post is inspired by the assignment and How to Create a Facebook Live Show.

Your Customer Is The Star: How To Make Millennials, Boomers and Everyone Else Love You

“But millennials, thanks to their lifetime of technology use and their growing buying power, perhaps make the best, most active spokespeople a company can have. Boston Consulting Group, with grand understatement, says that “the vast majority” of Millennials report socially sharing and promoting their brand preferences.”

Think of how you will look on the online reviews before you choose somewhere to eat, shop, etc. It’s the same with any business. If a person is thinking about using your service, then odds are they will research because along with word of mouth, social media is a hub for you to find potential clients. That’s why promoting your social media, especially when you are in a business like photography. People are going to look for a website, Instagram, facebook page, twitter, etc. to make sure that your work is what they want and up to par.

Appealing to these millennials will boost your business and get you very loyal and regular customers and that is what I’m hoping to do with my social media platforms.

The Laws

This video!!

Wow. Social Media marketing is a helpful thing in marketing for a business but only if you use it right. The dos and donts in this video are spot on and can make a world of difference when it comes to your success in social media marketing.

The law of patience was probably the most helpful for me though, because that is one thing I have not been very good at. Practicing patience has always been hard for me but waiting for my social media presence to flourish has been a really hard thing for me. When I started out my photography business, it was a joke between my cheer squad and I but it has picked up and I have become more invested in it. Waiting for people to start coming to me for pictures, has been one of the hardest things I’ve done but I’m glad I have because I am able to find new clients through already established clients and my connections are growing! Patience really is a virtue.

Instagram Hacks

When I first started my photographer Instagram, my mom and three friends followed me and I felt SO accomplished. I knew the basics of having one, but I wasn’t sure how to exactly market to those who would want to follow a photography account.

Well, I read 5 Instagram Hacks You’ve Been Missing Out On, and I realized a lot about how to work an Instagram and get the most out of your followers and the “explore page”!

Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags! I don’t utilize hashtags as much as I should but now I will start using them more. The more hashtags and the hiding them is more important. No one wants to scroll through 40 hashtags but the hashtags are what really makes people find your page and start following you.
